Day 8 (Final Days at Chitabe)

7/7/22  and 7/8/22 - Our final full day at Chitabe. We are all loving "da bush."  Lisa found this and it pretty much sums up what this place is all about.

It is shouting, Jeff, don't forget to smell the roses.  I wonder how much we really miss everyday?  It's hard to miss things at Chitabe, because the everyday distractions are gone.  Back to the bush... The baboons are not friendly and hound the camp.  They like to play games.

Pull my finger..

Some morning bush highlights.  Saw a couple jackals.  They run from us, but are major predators.  Look like dogs, not nice dogs.

Jackal Asses

One of our favorite games in the bush is guess where Goodman is going.  We were wrong a lot.  There are no street signs or stop lights.  Which way Goodman?

Backseat Driver Meeting

A hoping prey.  Let's all pray.

Rob decided to do his praying mantis/Craig Kimbrel imitation.  I know you Dodger fans know this.  Also, just because we are on vacation Craig, doesn't mean we don't know your ERA has ballooned to 4.82.  Come on dude, 3 years $43 million for a 4.82 Closer?

Rob, sit him? minors? what's up?

Wow!  Josh go the worst of Rob's praying mantis imitation

Coincidence?  I'm really smelling the roses now.  Not missing a beat.  "Zebra bath 2 o'clock"

Z' Spa.

We spent a long part of this morning trying to find male lions.  They can roam for miles to mark their territory.  We heard their roars but could not locate them.  It was pretty cool, but Goodman was bummed we couldn't find them.   He drove us around for about an hour or more just searching and listening.  Roses....

Hey lion... Marco...

We got back to camp around 12:30 for lunch.
Lunch with Jeffrey - 1 o'clock

Anyone watch My Octopus Teacher?  I didn't, but heard it was good.  I started bonding with the elephant that came by our room after lunch every day.

My Elephant Teacher

Time for a little afternoon balcony yoga, overlooking the bush.  My Elephant Teacher again....

Downward Facing Elephant

Octopus Smochtopus

Goodman wanted to make up for missing the male lion in the morning.  So he showed us how elephants can shake a palm tree and make it rain fruit.  We ran into 3 elephants.  One was teaching the younger ones how to do it.

Shake, shake, shake....

The youngsters tried, but couldn't quite do it.  Not yet strong enough.  But still got a "nice try" congrats from the shaker.

Elephant High 5

We then went searching for 40 hyena cubs that are hidden in a hyena hole.  Goodman has us wait about 45 minutes for them to come out.  They never did...  He wasn't happy.  It was pretty though.

Dyanu Hyenu.  Knock knock...

Our favorite part of almost every day, was sunset and happy hour with the Hippos.  Goodman was the bartendar, and we smelled the roses with beauty and appreciation.

It's ladies night and the music's right...

Bush Checkpoint: 08%?

Who's birthday tomorrow?

Smelling those roses...

7/8/22 - Our last day in the bush.  Because of an 11:30am flight out, we decided to head into the bush at 6:30am.  The 4 bush beauties decided to sleep in.
Bush Bachelors.  Let's rock Goodman!

Let's start with guess that animal?
Ostrich Burgers

Goodman was on the hunt for our last outing.  We ran into two lions that just had breakfast.

"Guys. Looks like your bitches slept in. Here's what we had for breakfast..."

Lion's 'Loin

We got back just in time for our last breakfast with our Chitabe family.  And look who got the morning surprise.

Happy Birthday Sunshine

Not your average birthday party.  Sunshine was brought to tears.  "#4/#5, we are glad you were born because..."

Bye bye Chitabe we will never forget you.  I can't really describe how amazing it was, and how grateful we all are.  Sunshine and Bethie summed it up well.

Off to Rwanda via Johannasburg.  Maybe the Bush Bitches were smart to sleep in.
